Where to Get an Eevee in Pokemon Radical Red?
Route 18 | |
![]() |
In some of the early versions (particularly before 3.0), Eevee can be regular encounters in Route 18. If you’re playing those older versions, then Route 18 is your go-to spot. |
Pokemon Day Care | |
![]() |
When you gain access to the Cut HM, head back to Cerulean City. Go to the Pokemon Day Care, and inside is a man who will battle you with all Level 100 Pokemon. You simply need to defeat the old man, and he’ll give you an Eevee. |
Celadon City | |
![]() |
In Celadon city, there is a big building where there is an entrance in the back. Go inside the entrance and head to the top floor. You’ll enter a room where there is a Karate Man NPC. The Poke Ball on the desk holds an Eevee. You can access this right away as soon as you arrive in Celadon City, even before the Gym Battle begins, with no other requirements. |
Route 10 Raid Den | |
![]() |
There is a raid outside the Rock Tunnel situated in the upper right area. An Eevee will be available for combat here, but it takes time. The encounter will be random, and it isn’t always an Eevee. It also takes a day for the encounter to happen. Be sure to keep checking this raid until an Eevee is available. |
Evolving Eevee Into Umbreon and Espeon

No Fairy-type Moves
This is the first important thing to have Umbreon and Espeon: your Eevee must not have a Fairy-type move because it will automatically evolve into a Sylveon when it levels up.
You can cancel the evolution, but as long as it has a Fairy-type move, it will keep evolving. Overwrite the move because the Sylveon evolution will always be the priority over Umbreon and Espeon.
Raising Eevee’s Friendship to Evolve
Much like the original games, the process of evolving Umbreon and Espeon is by raising their friendship level to a certain point.
Once the friendship level is at the right level, it will evolve into Umbreon at night and Espeon during the day.
Evolving Eevee Into Sylveon

As we already mentioned, you need to have your Eevee learn a Fairy-type move. Once the friendship is high enough, Eevee will evolve into Sylveon after it levels up.
Increasing an Eevee’s Friendship
Keep it in your party | |
![]() |
The usual steps apply like having it at your party. As long as it keeps soaking up experience and not getting knocked out a lot, it will level up and gain friendship with minimal effort. |
Take it out of its Poke Ball | |
![]() |
There is an NPC in the Viridian City Pokemon Center who can take out your Pokemon and it will follow you. You can let Eevee out of the ball and follow you. You can interact with it and see if it’s happy enough. |
Give it a haircut | |
![]() |
The Soothe Bell is a held item that increases a Pokemon’s friendship when they are holding it. It’s something like an EXP enhancer, but in this case it is the friendship that increases. You can obtain the Soothe Bell after beating Morty in Lavender Town. |
Feed it Pomeg Berries | |
![]() |
Pomeg Berries can be given to Eevee to boost its friendship. Be careful because it lowers the max HP of the Pokemon. It will go to a point where the Pokemon cannot eat anymore as its HP cannot be lowered further. |
Get the Soothe Bell | |

The Soothe Bell is a held item that increases a Pokemon’s friendship when they are holding it. It’s something like an EXP enhancer, but in this case, it is the friendship that increases. You can obtain the Soothe Bell after beating Morty in Lavender Town. |
Using Cheats | |
![]() |
There’s a code that you can type in your Home’s NES unit. The code is “Woyaopp,” and it will give you 100 Rare Candies and 100 Pomeg Berries. Head to Viridian City, and there is a youngster NPC outside of the Pokemon Center. Talk to him, and he’ll give you those items. Use the Pomeg Berries to increase Eevee’s friendship level until it is ready to evolve. You can also use the Umbreon modifier cheat we have here at Pokemoncoders, including other helpful Pokemon Radical Red cheats. |
Evolving Eevee Into Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon

This one is easy because you just need to get the right Evolution Stone and give it to the Eevee. Use a Fire Stone to get Flareon, a Thunder Stone for Jolteon, and a Water Stone for Vaporeon.
Head to the Celadon City Department Store to buy all and any of these stones, so that’s unlimited amounts you can get as long as you have money.

Evolving Eevee Into Leafeon and Glaceon

In the original Gen 4 games, they are evolved by having a high amount of friendship and being near a specific stone. In Pokemon Radical Red, using an Evolution Stone is just as easy.
Just buy the stones from the Celadon City Mall to make them evolve. Get an Ice Stone for Glaceon and a Leaf Stone for Leafeon.
In Closing
Now that you know how to get an Umbreon in Pokemon Radical Red as well as the other Eeveelutions, what are you waiting for?
You can get an Eevee as early as after the second gym and before the fourth gym. The one in the raid den is meant for later use.
The raid den Eevee can be encountered multiple times if you’re lucky, but it requires high-level Pokemon to capture. Don’t worry too much about it, since Pokemon Radical Red holds a ton of other Pokemon for you to train so you can have as many Eevee as you want.
