What Are HMs?
HMs (short for Hidden Machines) are mechanisms for teaching special moves to a Pokemon.
Unlike TMs that can only be used in battles, Pokemon can perform HM moves outside of battle.
These moves have functions that can interact with the environment, which are sometimes required to progress through the story.
You can have your Pokemon use an HM move given the condition that you already acquired a specific badge.
Moreover, HM moves cannot be deleted, so just keep that in mind before you teach a Pokemon.
How to Get HMs in Pokemon Games?

Flash is a Normal-type move that illuminates dark areas, from having limited vision to exposing the entire map. |
To obtain Flash, you need to capture 10 different types of Pokemon. Go back to Route 2 where it is blocked by a tree so you’ll need Cut. Enter the building and talk to Oak’s assistant and he’ll give you HM 05. |

Rock Smash is a Fighting-type move that will allow Pokemon to break specific rocks offering items, Pokemon encounters, or nothing at all. |
For this one, you need to have access to One Island first. Head up to the path where you’ll see Ember Spa. Find the old man between two waterfalls and talk to him, and he’ll give you Rock Smash. |
